  • Hey Sel!

So I've finally watched most of the first season of Shadowhunters and I also popped open and started reading the books.  I finished Book One and and am halfway thru the second.   Naturally, the entire time I'm reading or watching I'm drawing comparisons with both versions of the same story, but also comparing what I see and read.  Of course its great to see lines from the books work their way into the show even though something that was said in book two appears in like the 4th episode, its still nice to make callbacks to the source material while the show does their own thing (and in some cases improves upon them)

If we could go to Grim's Cafe for real, I could talk to you for hours about the show and the books, I've no doubt about that, but alas, you will have to setlle for lots of paragraphs instead!

I make the comparisons between that show and yours for the obvious reasons of being in the same genre and containing many of the same themes; female protagonist finding out her connection to a broader supernatural world with a rich history and of course, falling for a cute boy at the same time, while the world as they know it is about to end horribly!

I know you've seen the show but I dont know if you read the novels, (mild spoilers perhaps?)  but I'm sure you are aware that things move slower in books than in the fast pace demanded in tv storytelling, but there concepts in both forms that I really like and make me think about storyelling in general and for your series, Inferno.  The show makes Izzy's relationship with Meliorn much more visceral, complete with PG-13 romance/love scene, as opposed to being only obliquely refferenced like in the novel.  This works for the TV version, as it better establishes her character, provides fan service, but also alows for plot development later on in the series like when he's arrested.  By broadening his role, viewers become invested in him and then are just as eager as the rest of the crew to come to his rescue.  This is a much larger role that what we first get of him in the novels, the one who simply brings the group to the Seelie Court and the story is much better off with these kinds of changes.

One thing that I find the second novel does really well so far is the character of the Inquisitor.  From her very first appearance, she sends off bad vibes to the reader and the effect she has on the other characters, including the other adult Shadowhunters is chilling.  Every scene with her had me amped up and just as worried as the others in the story and she plays the role of an antagonist very well and even though I know theres more books to come, you can't help but be like "Oh no, she's going to ruin everything!"  To me, she's even more intimidating a character than Maxim.  Maxim is arrogant and a know it all, but other ORBS members just seem to be slightly anoyed at him, they don't walk around on eggshells in fear like this Inquistor does to others.  As time goes on I'm sure we will see Maxim in all his intimidating glory as we discover the truh about his rise to power within ORBS.

With Midnight Texas about to start, I'll have another soure of material to get inspiration from (or perhaps lament as they steal another one of your concepts from Inferno, lol)

I'll stop for now, but I could go on and on...every scene set at the Jade Moon makes me think of Bloodlines and the Moon Lite Grill, Magnus and Alec make me think of Todd and Jamie etc, etc :D

    • Do you have any free time during summer? Jay and I will be getting back into the swing of things when it comes to the series we have at the moment? As for the song... Oh, my god!!!! It's perfect, I kind of picture it as an ending scene sorta song, that if it were a real show(inferno), it would be used to showcase different characters in the final moments of the episode! I don't think I have heard of Believer though? Is it good?  But by all means, keep the song suggestions coming! <3

TO I'm only human after all-0

And I'm so with you on that, it DEFINATELY has like season finale cliffhanger episode vibes to it, like aftermath of Agoroth or some serious self inflicted carnage that befalls our lovely castmates :P  Definate montage possibilities!   Work is steady year long, so I don't see me being any more or less free than I currently am.  I just have the evenings after work and I dont stay up as late as I used to.  I can sit in chat for hours and not see anyone so let me know a time to be on and we'll see what we can work out!

    • Ah, fan made videos... It's how I usually find songs! But they are rabbit hole I tell you, you star with one and then you look at the clock and have you realized... Shit, I wasted the day away! XD  But the video is definately how I picture it on an asthetic level. These sort of things tend to inspire for sure. Have you heard of this show called Class? It's eight episodes for the first season, and a spinoff of Dr. Who. However, Class has a more darker tone. I would reccomend you watch it! It has already inspire me in several ways! :)   I see.. I get out of school mid june, so maybe towards the end of that?

    • Welcome to my humble abode! :) I haven't had much time to update. But currently there are three series in progress. Horrifically Wicked Tales is an  loosely connected anthology series centering on (this season) a group of british students who end up being targets of a serial killer. This came about before Scream TV Series and Scream Queens. But essentially we have a killer, each episode, someone importan(main or recurring ) will die and then towards the end, we unmask the killer. The last 2-3 episodes will have the killer trying to finish off the last batch of survivor and his  or her identity revealed to everyone. The other two are part of the same universe and they are Inferno and Bloodlines. Inferno follows Sophia, a witch of sorts who ends up not only figuring out she has powers, but that her family is somehow connected to all of it. Along the way, she makes friends, enemies and even finds love. All while dark forces are at work. We're currently working on the eight episode of the first season. Bloodlines is a spinoff of Inferno and takes plaise in  lazy town sowhere in Idaho. It's got some familiar faces from Inferno, but essentially, the first season deals with the vampire sireline of Maxim and the ongoing feud with the Evergeen Hunters Clan.

  • Hola Miedo, tengo una nueva idea para una nueva serie, la trama va como esto:

    Plot

Back in 1903, deep in Clifton, there used to be an asylum buried deep within the wilderness of Clifton. Pretty soon after the civil war people started inhabiting the area, population-wise around three hundred or so. It was a very small town. Nonetheless people didn't like the idea of having an asylum miles down the road, so they all got together and signed a petition for the asylum to relocate elsewhere. The petition passed and a new asylum was built, which is now known as "Lorton Prison", a temporary facility for convicts to stay in until they are appropriately sentenced.

In the autumn of 1904, the convicts were gathered and piled into the bus, used to transport them to Lorton. Somewhere during the drive not too far from where they left, the driver had swerved to avoid something and the bus had started to tip, and soon was rolling in a terrible collision course.

Most of the convicts were injured, but managed to escape the bus and had fled into the night towards the woods. The next morning, a local police investigation had begun, and they begun rounding up the escaped convicts. Hours turned into days, days into weeks, weeks into months. Everyone was recovered after four months- except for two people, named Marcus A. Wallster and Douglas J. Grifon. During the search for both men, the police found dead rabbits, all of them half-eaten and dismembered, every now and then along their search.

Finally, they were to find Marcus dead by the Fairfax station Bridge (now known as Bunny Man's Bridge). In his hand, he held a man-made hammer/knife like tool, made with a sharp rock and a sturdy branch as a handle. They thought nothing of it, and didn't care how he died, only that he was apprehended and they no longer had to worry about him. They had a name for Marcus, but later on they would realize they had named the wrong person the Bunny Man.

Still searching for Douglas, they kept on finding dead half-eaten rabbits every so often while the search went on. Eventually, they were to name Douglas the "Bunny Man" from then on.

Months passed by and the police gave up their search. Everybody assumed the Bunny Man was dead by now, if not gone, so they went on with their small town lives. Come October, people started seeing dead bunnies reappearing out of the blue, and starting to fear the unseen.

Halloween Night came around, and as usual, a bunch of kids had gone over to the Bridge that night to drink and do whatever kids their age in the early twentieth century did. Midnight came around within minutes, and most of the kids had left. Only three of them remained at the bridge.

Exactly at midnight, a bright light came from the bridge, right where the kids were. A few seconds later, they were all dead. Throats slashed with that same type of tool that was found next to the other escapee, Marcus. Not only were their throats slashed, but they were cut up and down their chests, gutted like fish. The Bunny Man then hung both of the boys from one end of a bridge with rope around their necks, hanging from the overpass with their legs dangling in view of any passing cars.

The girl was hung the same way, on the other side of the bridge. This happened on Halloween in 1905. After that, they didn't see or hear anything from him for another year.

Halloween 1906 was approaching, and parents as well as the teens in Clifton still remember the incident that had occurred one year ago at the bridge- his bridge, the Bunny Man's Bridge.

That night, seven teens were left remaining right before midnight at the bridge. Thinking little of it, six remained inside the bridge while one, Adrian Hatala had remained a good distance from the bridge hoping to have enough time to escape if the same thing happened again. She was the only one to witness this, a dim light walking the railroad track just before midnight, stopping right above the bridge at midnight, then disappearing at the same time that a bright flash was inside the bridge. She heard the deafening sounds of terrified screaming coming from inside the bridge that lasted only seconds. Moments later, they were all hung from the edge of the bridge, in the same way as the corpses a year earlier.

Horrified, she ran home, and refused to tell all of what she saw, just spattered words mixed with incoherent mumblings that the people of her town had to put together to come up with her story. No one understood it or believed her. They charged her with the teen's murders, and locked her up in the Asylum of Lorton. In 1913, the same thing happened- with nine teenagers this time, on a Halloween night once again.

Adrian was still locked up. They dropped her sentence, but it was too late. The insanity had finally conquered her. Even if she was released, she was too far gone to have a life, so she spent her remaining years in the asylum until she finally died in 1953 of reported shock.

No one knows what exactly she died of shock from, but supposedly she had died in her sleep, dreaming of that one dreaded night. Perhaps the Bunny Man had finally gotten to her.

More murders were to take place however, although after the murders in 1913, most people stayed clear of the bridge on Halloween.

  • Hello, Selena. I have returned from being MIA for like a year and I am finally ready to come back. I have been actively looking at this wiki and the PLL one, just not contributing. I think we should arrange some time to have a catch-up because I am also (finally) returning to writing. I finished my creative writing course in college and I feel a lot more prepared to handle writing a series, especially since I got an award for my coursework piece which was a piece of script writing.

Hopefully will hear from you soon.

    • It's in the top 1% of colleges in the UK, so it is amazing for teaching. Celtic Mythology...that sounds really interesting, I'd love to do something like that. Well, acting had always been a passion of mine but I was being realistic and I knew if I went down that root that I would have limited options and nothing to fall back on if I failed in that career. Plus, someone I know (who had toured countries doing Broadway) now has nothing to do as a career because she put all her focus on acting and she is amazing. I am also not the best at acting, but, art has always been another passion of mine and interiors is something I would 100% like my future career to be.

That sentance just sounds stressful. I am literally so so so so happy to be on a break right now, I cannot describe.

    • That's good to hear! :) Kudos chica! <3  Yeah, I've taken all the mythology classes. Arthurian Legend was pretty interesting too. :P  Yeah, it's kind of why I'm debating on wether or not I should go for something like scriptwriting or try to become an author. Though with an english degree, I can pretty much do anything. Like Aria on PLL, I could get my foot in the door, work in a book publishing company and then move up to eventually write a book! :) But guess we'll see, cause i know what you mean.... being realistic sucks lol.

    • Nice! I got my math grade back too today and I'm pleasantly surprised. I revised my second project from around midterms week, and got a 95% on it! On a my final, I got an 87% and my last project for it I got a 100%. So overall, I got a 97% and I'm really happy! It's the first time I ever had an A in a math class. Usually, I have to try really hard and give it my 110% in order to get a B in a math class. As a whole, I've always been better in english and history classes. Hbu? As for BIO, I don't know if my grade will remain an A since I don't know what I got my my final paper or final exam. But I have a pretty high A, and I'm confident it will remain as such. In my writing class, I  have a B+ at the moment. So hopefully they remain that way! :) Lol since I have really nice handwriting, i'm usually the resident note taker. I don't like being team leader per se. However, I will step if the need arises. Ouch! I feel for that guy though!

I cannot wait to write for Inferno, as over the year I got so busy, there wasn't much free time. I also will be actually reading for fun lol. I don't know yet what kind of books I will be checkign out though. But it is exciting! Then there's all the shows on my DVR, and the ones I want to watch on my Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu accounts lol! I will be one busy gal for sure haha. :P

As for the 100, you took the words right out my mouth! :)  I really do appreciate a good slowburn realionship! Especially when the two characters in question are friends first. That just adds more depth to it all.  Are you familiar with Grey's Anatomy? If you are, I feel like Bellarke is similar to Meredith and Cristina. In other words, I feel like  Bellamy and Clarke understand each other in a way the rest don't. They have the time of bond, where as cheesy as it sounds... doesn't require much words. I also feel like there was some attraction there (that scene from last year where bellamy goes and "rescue" Clarke. I think in the back of their minds, it was always there. But like you said, they always had something else to worry about. So in a way, both put their friends and family above their own personal concerns.

    • Good job on those grades! So if I'm understanding correctly, you were taking 4 classes? I was swamped with 3 adding up to 12 credits, idk how you do it. A girl in my First Aid class was taking 5 classes. I can't even imagine. I've always been good in math, specifically algebra, mostly because, unlike writing, it doesn't take any creativity. Put a number in, get a number out. But this term was harder because trig is like the opposite of algebra--it's all about memorizing identities, getting your answer by manipulating relationships. When I got that second midterm grade of 86% I just decided I was done letting trig kick my butt and I would finish with at least an A- --and I did! 🙌 Writing analytical pieces of other literature or events in history I'm good at. I do, however, have a fear of creative writing much like some people have of public speaking. Also, if I'm given a specific topic to write about and it's something I don't find interesting, I have a hard time being motivated. I have atrocious handwriting which is why I'm better at telling other people what to write (pls don't judge 🙊).

Instead of bingeing one show a time like I've been doing I'm watching several shows at once. I just couldn't watch another episode of NCIS after I got to the 6th season so I broke it up with Reign, and I also started Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I plan to read a lot more this summer, too. Any books you can recommend (not new releases tho, ones I can find in my library)?

I've never watched Grey's. But I totally get what you mean about Bellamy and Clarke's bond. We've gotten glimpses of them revealing their feelings just a little bit. Like when Bellamy wanted to go to Mt. Weather and Clarke told him not to, because she didn't want to lose him too. Or, like you said, he was hellbent on rescuing her. And not long ago when he insisted there was something he needed her to hear but she shut him down. I do kind of feel like he's more aware of it than she is, at least until the finale when SHE insisted on telling him what he didn't want to hear. It's all been very deliberate.
